NEWSFLASH

Today this beautiful girl received her acceptance letter.

She will be spending 2008 on exchange in France.
We are a little overwhelmed right now. When we have finished laughing and crying we'll tell you what we are feeling.
I am just so proud that she was accepted. I know how remarkable she is. Now I know that others see it too.

that is just sensational news. COngratulations Ashleigh...what an achievement...and what an adventure you have to look forward to. As a fellow "student exchanger" (1990, California) I can honestly say that this will be an experience of a lifetime. Brace yourself for an amazing ride...xx

I can remember the day my acceptance letter arrived for my youth exchange adventure in 1983 (Sunnyside, Washington State) but I wish I had kept a diary record too. If Ashleigh doesn't keep a journal, at least she has a Mum who blogs!

If it's Rotary, I know what she went through ( California, '88 ), and let me tel you, the accomplished ones go to France, the naff scraper-in-er-ers go to America ;)

CONGRATS - what an experience it will be ! :)

And so much more different from when I went - what with electronic mail and all the do-dads.

I feel almost like I must have ventured via boat ...

( but I have also been to France, and do not let those 'arrogant' rumours sway you .. you just need to dress right .. your daughter looks immaculate .. what they DON't like is Americans in track-pants ! )

So she'll be fine :)

( Still no book ??!?!? - getting worried ! )

Oh congratulations to your gorgeous girl! And to you for raising her so well!

Also, H&B is right, your stylish and chic daughter will be charmed by attentive frenchmen all the way and no-one will be the least arrogant.

Can't wait to hear about her adventures and will also be right here to try and cheer up the bereft mother....

assuming I'm still allowed on your blog with my naturally red hair...

Oh well done! Profuse congratulations to your lovely young lady. It will be bittersweet for you Tracey when she goes! And the journal idea is great - one never regrets keeping one, you only miss it if you don't (I speak from experience here!)

Are all natural redheads banned from your blog now?

I'm not smirking either, really! (You can't really claim advantage from one of the benefits of red hair, can you?)

Jen - we know it will be amazing, just need to get organised!
brenda - she will start her own blog before she goes
kirsty - who isn't jealous, I told her to keep a look out for Johnny Depp
thanks vicki
caramaena - who doesn't!
h&b - it is with rotary, I know she'll stun them with ther grace and elegance
stomper - you may stay, because f*beep*ty will necessitate hair dye for you too and maybe you'll choose mousy so that you can look like me in my natural state
sussanah - I am the king of the divan! ooooo ooooo ooooo oooo (please goggle the words to that song for that obscure reference)
thank you meggie and molly
nutmeg - the day she leaves will tear at my soul, but I know that she will be back (I will pay for a return ticket). I haven't banned redheads, just smug people who comment about grey hair and drag queen gloves!
